Mean Girls Club: Pink Dawn by Ryan Heshka
Warning: these pages are dangerous! Mean Girls Club is like sailor tattoos, Wanda Jackson records, and Russ Meyer films blended into the perfect pulp comic about sending misogyny to its grave. I read it cover to cover in one sitting and had to pick my jaw up off the floor from the arresting quality of Heshka’s art. Seriously, no one else delivers mayhem this gorgeous.

The Recovering: Intoxication and its Aftermath by Leslie Jamison
I don’t read a lot of recovery memoirs, but Leslie Jamison’s work immediately drew me in. Part memoir, part literary criticism, The Recovering is a unique book. Jamison is brutally honest about her journey to sobriety, and the scholarly work interspersed throughout the novel is fascinating and thorough. If your life has been impacted by addiction, or even if it hasn’t, give this one a try.

Little Beast by Julie Demers
French surrealism is what fuels the book I’m reading this week. When a young girl starts growing a beard her father is so appalled he leaves his family. Her mother decides to hide her “little beast” away from the world, yet someone still discovers her unique problem and is trying to capture her. I’m not sure exactly where this story is going, but I’m invested.
