DiverseCity Book Club’s next meeting is tomorrow, 7/13, at 6:30pm on our third floor. We hope you’ll join them! Here’s a note from their leader, Charlotte Moore:
While I argue technology is killing humanity, I also marvel at how it connects us.
Here’s what I mean.
The current selection for Austin’s DiverseCity Book Club is Waking Up White: And Finding Myself in the Story of Race by racial justice educator and writer Debby Irving.
Now, I’m never shy about reaching out to authors of the books we read to invite them to our next meeting. Or to Skype with us during our discussion. Or to send us a pre-recorded message. Or to sponsor our snacks. You know, whatever they feel compelled to contribute.
Most times, I hear nothing back.
This time, I did!
Here’s the reply to my request from Debby Irving. (How COOL is it when they actually respond???) And, whether you’re a member of our book club or not, she’s offered a gift. Not snacks, but just as valuable.
If you’re so inclined to attend, our next meeting is Thursday night, 6:30 pm, at BookPeople on 6th and Lamar. And if you haven’t read the book, don’t worry. The DiverseCity Book Club always goes beyond the book!

Hello Charlotte –
Thank you for thinking to invite me to your book club meeting. Unfortunately I’ll be on a writing retreat so won’t be available.
If your group feels compelled to keep going on their awakening journey, I offer this up as a FREE online tool: 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge. Thank you for putting my story to use in beautiful Austin!
