The BookPeople holiday catalog—our annual year-in-review publication—is here and, like most things in 2020, it’s gone virtual for the occasion! And while you can’t hold a physical copy this season, there’s still plenty to enjoy about it!
This year’s theme, This Is My Favorite Book…of the Pandemic highlights the titles our booksellers found comfort in during a year that was anything but. You’ll find them among the gorgeous spreads and loads of other stellar books and gifts we’ve discovered and loved in 2020—enough to complete those shopping lists for the holidays! To enhance the virtual experience, today we’re kicking off a limited series of features spotlighting the booksellers that made it into the catalog. They’ll be telling you a little bit about their favorite book and themselves. Next up is longtime bookseller, Thomas!

Bookseller Q&A
BP: How long have you been working at BookPeople?
Thomas: 17 years officially, 24 unofficially thanks to my mother.
BP: What is your favorite BookPeople memory?
Thomas: Levar Burton reading his picture book The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm, it felt like watching Reading Rainbow again.
BP: How has your job changed during the pandemic?
Thomas: Instead of being out on the floor helping customers in the store, I work out of my own office making sure everyone who orders online gets the books they want!
BP: What has brought you joy and comfort during 2020?
Thomas: This one is tough, but I do a lot of baking and it really keeps me calm.
BP: If you could make a safe COVID pod with 2-5 literary characters, who would they be and why?
Thomas: Bilbo Baggins who has a lot of practice staying inside and not going anywhere. Mr. Fox from the Fantastic Mr. Fox, because he’s great at acquiring groceries. Belgarath from the fantasy series the Belgariad, he tells the best stories. Cassie from the Animorphs, she is a doctor and can be any animal I don’t know how useful that is yet but it is somehow. And lastly H from Ready Player One, I want someone to game and watch terrible 80s movies with!
BP: What would your favorite literary character be doing during a pandemic?
Thomas: Wearing a mask! Harry Dresden respects everyone around him! And also saving the world.
BP: What’s your go-to feel good show or movie?
Thomas: The West Wing, my choice for best Sorkin.
BP: If you could only eat one thing what would it be?
Thomas: Chicken, weird answer I know but you can do so much with it it never gets boring!
