BookKids: Book Club Recommends…

A couple of recommendations from members of our Kids Book Club!

The Kids Book Club meets every third Saturday of the month right here at BookPeople! This book club focuses on titles that build empathy in young readers, specifically for kids ages 8-12, but all are welcome! The December meeting was on the smaller side– holiday chaos and all that– but we asked Ellie and Elizabeth what their favorite books of the year were and we thought we’d share their thoughtful responses!

Ellie recommends:

Becoming Naomi León by Pam Muñoz Ryan

Why I Love It:

“It’s sweet and beautiful and cozy. It’s the type of book you would want to curl up with a blanket and read for hours. It also gets suspenseful and exciting, too– and is all wrapped up in a beautiful, creative present tied with a velvet ribbon.”

Elizabeth recommends:

The Candymakers by Wendy Mass

Why I Love It:

“I like this book because it talks about the elements of friendship and it is a cliff hanger because in the end you learn that all the kids know each other. It’s about 4 kids who enter a candy contest and you have to create the next best candy in the world.”

Do you know a voracious young reader ages 8-12? Looking for a new book club in 2020? Join us and our friends from Austin Allies the third Saturday of the month in our Kids amphitheater! We enjoy great discussions, and sometimes we have special guests like authors, educators, and even THE MAYOR!

  1. I would love to share my book with your Kids Book Club. Perfect for 8-12 plus. It’s the first in a series and is called The Stupendous Adventures of Mighty Marty Hayes.
My novel features multicultural superheroes, working on Crispr-Cas 9 gene editing technology, and share a love of spy gadgets.
