We can’t wait for Bronwen Dickey to bring her book Pit Bull to our store this Friday, 7/22 at 7PM. It’s a hugely illuminating story that reveals how this infamous breed became the most demonized and supposedly the most dangerous of dogs—and what role humans have played in creating that myth.
“Bronwen Dickey blew my mind with ‘Pit Bull’, weaving social and cultural history, personal interviews, and pop culture into a book that reveals that what we call a ‘pit bull’ doesn’t even really exist. I am no longer comfortable identifying any dog by its breed, even my own, much less judging them.” —Claire, Associate Buyer
To get in the spirit, several of our booksellers met at the Austin Animal Center on Saturday to spend time with the rescued animals by preparing and handing out treats. (The Shelter has between 200 and 300 dogs on premises at any given time!)
Find out how you can help out at the Shelter! We hope to see you Friday at 7PM for Bronwen’s talk and signing. If you can’t make it, you can order a signed, personalized copy of Pit Bull here.
