MARVELED: Students Take Inspiration From the Work of Brian Selznick

We’re incredibly excited for tomorrow night’s event with Brian Selznick, the bestselling author and illustrator of The Invention of Hugo Cabret, in celebration of his new novel, The Marvels.

To get students excited, we asked schools to make art inspired by Selznick’s work, and we are so impressed by their creative interpretations.

Rachel Korngut on the work of students from Perez Elementary:

“We have been reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret in my 5th grade class. The students have taken special interest in the way the illustrations change perspective on the same subject (first from very far away, then discovering the real subject up close in detail).

“For our art inspiration project, we decided to use photography as our medium. We also have been focusing on incorporating technology, so we used a common app to collage the different perspectives of one subject. Each student chose a subject that inspired them to take photographs, and they each took multiple photographs from different perspectives. Enjoy!”
