Tickets Now On Sale: John Irving – November 12

We’re thrilled to announce we’ll host John Irving, bestselling author of The World According to Garp and A Prayer for Owen Meany, with his new novel, Avenue of Mysteries, at Riverbend Centre on Thursday, November 12 at 7PM. Tickets are on sale now and include a copy of the new book.

John Irving returns to the themes that established him as one of our most admired and beloved authors in this absorbing novel of fate and memory. Juan Diego’s thirteen year old sister, Lupe, is a mind reader; she doesn’t know what everyone is thinking, but she knows what most people are thinking. Lupe doesn’t know the future as accurately. As an older man, Juan Diego will take a trip to the Philippines, but what travels with him are his dreams and memories; he is most alive in his childhood and early adolescence in Mexico. AVENUE OF MYSTERIES is the story of what happens to Juan Diego in the Philippines, where what happened to him in the past–in Mexico–collides with his future.

John Irving is the author of numerous novels for adults, including A Widow for One Year, The Cider House Rules, A Prayer for Owen Meany, and The World According to Garp. He lives in Vermont and Toronto.

One of modern American literature’s most accomplished and celebrated writers, John Irving’s novels have endeared him as a master of his craft and in a league few authors have ventured. He’s the recipient of the National Book Award as well as an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for his own novel, The World According to Garp. His new novel, Avenue of Mysteries, explores the familiar themes of fate and memory we’ve come to admire when cracking the spine of one of his books. BookPeople is pleased to welcome John Irving to Austin’s Riverbend Centre to discuss Avenue of Mysteries. Tickets are required. They cost $35.00 and include a copy of Avenue of Mysteries. Riverbend Centre is located at 4214 N Capital of Texas Hwy, Austin, TX 78746.
