In 2002, Richard Linklater and his cast of four actors (Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke, Ellar Coltrane, and Lorelei Linklater) began a project that would last twelve years. The result is the film Boyhood, which, if you haven’t seen, you should probably take care of as soon as possible.
The film is Texas to the core, even featuring your local independent bookstore and some of your favorite booksellers in a scene (see if you can spot us!). Fittingly, University of Texas Press brings us a series of photographs from Matt Lankes which show the behind-the-scenes of this impressive film as well as gorgeous portraits of those involved, alongside recollections from the actors and filmmakers. Revealing the passage of time beyond what was captured by the lens of the movie camera, Boyhood: Twelve Years on Film is an intimate documentation of this groundbreaking film. Fans of Hard Ground (also from UT Press) will love this book.
A big thanks to UT Press for sending along the photos. Truly, the best way to experience this book (like any book really) is in person. Come by the store to see for yourself!
Copies of Boyhood: Twelve Years on Film are available on our shelves and via bookpeople.com
