Books, Undercover

First, a little bit of terminology. The outside of a hardcover book is called the case. Often, the case is either a plain unembellished color or, as with picture books, the case will be printed with the exact same image as the one on the dust jacket, or jacket for short.

Second – and here’s where things get fun – the case doesn’t have to match the jacket. Dun-dun-dunnnnn! The artwork on the case might be an elaborate new picture, or it might be simple and subtle. There is even one book that I know of that has texture on the case (Mr. Tiger Goes Wild). I highly recommend you always take a little peek under that jacket because you never know what you might find.

Here are some books on our shelves that look good dressed or undressed, and they are all good reads, too.
