Night Film by Marisha Pessl

“I’m only a few pages in, and this book is so creepy and spooky that I don’t want to turn the lights out after I put it down. It’s really fantastic at this point. It hooks book fans in this interesting way with all these interactive elements. Right at the beginning of Night Film, the main character is the feature of this New York Times profile. It’s this faux story, but it’s amazingly crafted. I’m looking forward to the rest of it. But I won’t be reading it at night.”

An Everlasting Meal: Cooking with Economy & Grace by Tamar Adler

“This book is life-changingly epic. It is both informative and beautifully lyrical. It’s full of essays about cooking that are not only inspiring but are full of incredible information. I’m a good cook, but I aspire to be a great cook. I keep trying new things, and I never would have attempted such ambitious endeavors if it was not for this book. I’ve been going on and on about this book for weeks, and I plan to buy a second copy. I know the first will simply be destroyed from all my work in the kitchen.”

A Good Man Is Hard To Find & Other Stories by Flannery O’Connor

“Flannery O’Connor is always a must read. Her stories are full of these dark characters that she uses to examine the morality behind faith. Anyone who loves John Steinbeck or William Faulkner will love O’Connor. If you haven’t read her or experienced her stories, you’re missing out on a national treasure.”

The Required Reading Revisited Book Club meets Sunday, March 9 at 5PM to discuss A Good Man is Hard to Find. Check out their Facebook event for more information.

booksCount Zero by William Gibson

“I’ve had this book forever, but I haven’t picked it up until now. It’s the sequel to one of my favorites, Neuromancer. I wish I had picked it up sooner; I really like it. It’s this great combo of noir and sci-fi. It’s fast-paced with great imagery and enough techno-jargon to be right up my nerd alley. This book has a lot of morally grey areas and intricate layers that will keep you reading.”

  1. I got Night Film for Christmas and I was flipping through it the other day to decide if I was going to start reading it. And it creeped me out so much that I couldn’t! If I can’t read it at night (or when I’m alone by the sounds of it) when am I ever going to read this! I want to but I’m such a wimp!

  2. both A Good Man is Hard to Find & Night Film are such good reads! in completely different ways, of course. . . but i am completely intrigued by An Everlasting Meal! must inquire. 🙂

  3. I am interested in reading “Night Film” – saw it first in a book cover design discussion and got curious. While the cover is very competent, from what I’ve read it does set the tone for the book. What would be your opinion on this, those who have read it?
