There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as Stephen King’s bibliography and as timeless as Edgar Allan Poe’s scary bird thing. It is the middle ground between a noble literary endeavor and a complete waste of time – between science and a child’s drawing of a dinosaur – and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of nerdy obsession. It is an area which we call…the Nightmare Factory Book Club. Join us on Tuesday November 19th at 8:00 p.m. in BookPeople’s ethereal cafe as we meet to discuss Last Days by the exquisitely terrifying and extraordinarily British Adam Nevill.
Introducing one Mr. Kyle Freeman – a guerilla documentarian with a knack for all things esoteric. Though he does not know it yet, his next assignment will introduce him to an ethical dilemma, which will split apart his very understanding of reality. When his mind is left reeling, his only solace can be in…the Nightmare Factory. As the last remaining survivors of a 1960s death cult are picked off piecemeal by forces mysterious, our hero is commissioned to document the downfall of the sect and its secretive leader, Sister Katherine. When evil energies from a realm beyond our own turn their sights on our unwary filmmaker, it is up to him to protect himself and his friends by solving the mystery of the Last Days.
The Nightmare Factory book club meets at 8:00 p.m. in the cafe at BookPeople on the third Tuesday of every month to trip the light fantastic about the latest literary horror fiction to put ants in our pants. Throw your voice into the din this coming Tuesday November 19th as we banter about Adam Nevill’s Last Days, which was the recipient of the British Fantasy Award for Best Horror Novel of the Year in 2012. Come be a part of the conversation! We want to hear your thoughts on this month’s selection, so don’t force us to extract them manually. Now I have to go read this. I have got to stop. I know that I am such a coward and can’t stand any scary books or movies. But somehow, I forget about that and think I’m braver than I am. I usually end up shivering in my bed after reading or watching, jumping at the bumps in the night.
