TONIGHT The Nightmare Factory Book Club feeds you to the werewolves

HAWOOOO!

~post by Steven W

Good evening, weary travelers. Come in from the rain and fortify yourself with a warm beverage, why don’t you? Bring us news of the outside world as we rummage through this old curiosity shop that we call home. Perhaps one of our old, forgotten trinkets may be of some assistance to you on your journeys, friend.

Have you any use of a “Mogwai”? No, no, of course not. They are dreadful creatures indeed with pretentious dietary restrictions. How about a “Lemarchand’s Box”? We can show you the “Lament Configuration”. Not your cup of tea? We understand. Hell dimensions can be so tiring with their desperate neediness. Surely what you need is a ventriloquist’s dummy with something on its mind. No? A haunted camera? A conch shell that sings with a mermaid’s voice? A murderer’s jacket? A tincture of laudanum? Aha! We should have guessed it with the full moon fast approaching! What you need is an elixir of wolfsbane! Well, it certainly is your good fortune to have stumbled upon our humble antiquity boutique this evening! The moors are no place for backpackers during this phase of the moon!

Kick up your heels and drink deeply of this potion, drowsy pilgrim. Grab yourself a copy of Lonely Werewolf Girl by Martin Millar and prepare for an relaxing discussion as you slip off to dreamland. “Who are we?” you ask. “And why are we speaking in sing-songy unison?” You see, we are none other than THE NIGHTMARE FACTORY BOOK CLUB, and you, listless wayfarer, are finally home!

Tonight at 8:00 PM, the Nightmare Factory book club is meeting amidst the will-o-the-wisps in BookPeople‘s foggy swampland cafe to gab about Martin Millar’s adorable, lycanthropic adventure Lonely Werewolf Girl.

Kalix MacRinnalch is a sad-sack outcast. As if dyslexia, anorexia, and addiction weren’t enough to deal with, she also has to endure the hassle of transforming into a hulking wolf monster every month. Now competing assassin guilds are after the price on her head, and she is caught in the middle of a war for the werewolf throne. Furthermore, a fashionista fire elemental is storing enchanted ball gowns in her attic; her boyfriend has been banished; her roommates are bickering humans; and all Kalix wants to do is get to the punk rock show on time…and decapitate her tyrannical brother, naturally.

Brave the howling winds (It’s just the wind, right?) this evening to meet the Nightmare Factory book club in the unassailable keep of BookPeople’s hoary cafe and chat about werewolves, loup-garous, fighting robots, and other shape-shifters over a steak dinner, cooked rare, of course. Just be sure to scurry away before the moon comes up.

  1. I read this book a few years ago; it made a refreshing change from the usual werewolf novels around and is still one of my favourites.
