The BookPeople holiday catalog—our annual year-in-review publication—is here and, like most things in 2020, it’s gone virtual for the occasion! And while you can’t hold a physical copy this season, there’s still plenty to enjoy about it!
This year’s theme, This Is My Favorite Book…of the Pandemic highlights the titles our booksellers found comfort in during a year that was anything but. You’ll find them among the gorgeous spreads and loads of other stellar books and gifts we’ve discovered and loved in 2020—enough to complete those shopping lists for the holidays! To enhance the virtual experience, today we’re kicking off a limited series of features spotlighting the booksellers that made it into the catalog. They’ll be telling you a little bit about their favorite book and themselves. Next up is bookseller, Chaun!
BP: How long have you been working at BookPeople?
Chaun: Officially employed 3 weeks now! But, I have been co-hosting the Well-Read Black Girl book club and volunteering for events for close to a year now!
BP: What is your favorite BookPeople memory?
Chaun: The Black History Month story time WRBG hosted last February! WRBG members read children’s stories by various Black authors-it was so great to engage with the community and celebrate Black history!
BP: How has your job changed during the pandemic?
Chaun: I have no idea what most of my colleagues actually look like.
BP: What has brought you joy and comfort during 2020?
Chaun: Reading-obviously! But, I’m also trying really hard to knit a blanket…I’ll probably be old and gray before it is finished!
BP: If you could make a safe COVID pod with 2-5 literary characters, who would they be and why?
Chaun: Luckily, owning books has allowed me to to have a safe COVID pod with hundreds of literary characters! And I am thankful to them all.
BP: What would your favorite literary character be doing during a pandemic?
Chaun: I don’t have a single favorite…but my most recent favorite character would probably be updating her Girls With Glasses site nonstop and raging at the nonsense of people’s actions.
BP: What’s your go-to feel good show or movie?
Chaun: Scooby-Doo Where Are You?, Living Single, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit! I have seen each of those so many times that re-watching them provides me with all the calm!
BP: If you could only eat one thing what would it be?
Chaun: Probably potatoes-they are SO good in all their potato-y forms!
Stay tuned and join us here later this week to learn more about booksellers featured in this year’s holiday catalog!
