BookKids: What We’re Lovin’

Here’s what the Kids team is reading and loving lately. Every month we’ll feature a few titles, from picture books to chapter, graphic novels, YA fiction & more! Check out more Kids bookseller recommendations on our Instagram (@bookpeople)!

Kids Inventory Manager Staci is in love with Max Amato’s Perfect

Staci is a huge fan of quirky books that make you laugh– The Princess in Black series and Adam Rubin’s El Chupacabras are a couple of her favorites– and Perfect fits right in. This picture book stars a pencil and an eraser, showing readers the great things that come from working together. Super imaginative and clever, this book is *perfect* for aspiring artists!

Kids bookseller Merrilee just discovered The Watertower by Gary Crew, illustrated by Steven Woolman

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

She says: “This is basically what would happen if Stephen King wrote picture books. It is super weird, not just the story but the illustrations are haunting and creepy, too. I love it! I read Gary Crew’s The Viewer ages ago, and I remember it being similar in style and thinking it was fascinating.” The Watertower appropriately lives in our Weird Books section at Kids.

Kids bookseller Savannah is a huge fan of Max & the Midknights by Lincoln Peirce

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset“Troubadours, ostlers, and knights oh my! Peirce has taken his humor and flair that’s abundant in Big Nate and thrown it into the Middle Ages with an oh-so-satisfactory result! Max and the Midknights overcome many obstacles and outmaneuver King Gastley in order to save Max’s Uncle Budrick and help bring prosperity back to the kingdom of Byjovia. Ultimately a story of finding one’s own path and overcoming societal norms, Max and the Midknights is full of adventure, laughs, and following your dreams! Definitely a next read for kiddos who love Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Big Nate!” BONUS: Lincoln Peirce was recently in the store, and we have signed copies! Order yours here.

School Events Coordinator Shannon loved The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

Shannon says: “With an insanely beautiful world that comes to life around you, The Gilded Wolves is an edge-of-your-seat, you’re probably going to throw this book at least three times, OH-MY-GOD-CAN-WE-DO-IT-AGAIN-style adventure! Between the lavish world building, the cast of characters that will leave you arguing with yourself over who your favorite is, and a fast moving plot, you’ll definitely finish the book in a day and then dive right back into it. Roshani Chokshi is so talented you might believe she was forged from the very magic she’s woven into the story. This is an adventure you absolutely cannot miss!”
