  1. “We passed the time with crosswords that she thought to bring inside
What five letters spell “apocalypse” she asked me
I won her over saying “W.W.I.I.I.”
She smiled and we both knew that she’d misjudged me”

  2. “So, living on the edge of the city limit line
This is where the boundary finally ends
And I swear that we’re the last living souls
    In a populated ghost town
All the billboards are our best friends”

  3. “It’s a hungry world out there,
even the wind’ll take a bite,
And I can feel the world circling,
sniffing around me in the night,
And the lost sheep grow teeth,
forsake the lambs and lie with the lions.”

  4. “They entered the War like men stepping out from beneath an awning into a torrential thunderstorm. The first man that Bright saw die fell back down into the very trench from which he’d just climbed. His uniform was still fresh and the tops of his boots had been shined. Only the soles looked muddy.”

  5. “I crossed the desert and I crested swells
The unknown country and the far-flung isles
The shores of faraway and faretheewell.
There’s nowhere else like my own heart’s ease.”

  6. “But I got a girl in the war Paul her eyes are like champagne.
They sparkle, bubble over, and in the morning all you got is rain.”

  7. “Every heart is a package tangled up in knots someone else tied,” although I could have just as easily answered any other line from Kathleen.

  8. I wondered what it was I¹d been looking for up above/
Heaven is so big there ain’t no need to look up/
So I stopped looking for royal cities in the air/
Only a full house gonna have a prayer

  9. Thanks Josh & Co. What a difficult decision since he’s a legendary lyricist and one of my favorite live performers. I’ll give you lyrics from my all time favorite song and from my favorite song off his new album.

These days I’m feelin’ better about the man that I am
    There’s some things I can change and there’s others I can’t
I met someone new now I know I deserve
I never met someone who loves the world more than her
    #HOPEFUL

Lying wide awake/In a different house/With different arms around you now/On a different street/In a different town/On the same old road/That the night comes down, That the night comes down. #TheStone (When I moved from NYC to ATX, this song spoke straight to the soul, as many JRit songs often do).

    Joy to you baby!

  10. Then I saw on a white space that was left
A blessing written older than the rest.
And it said leave me here I care not for wealth or fame
I’ll remember your song but I’ll forget your name
The words that I sang blew off like the leaves in the wind
And perched like birds in the branches before landing on the bone again

  11. Tokyo!
I know from all your movies that you know
the real deal when you see it — if you see it won’t you tell me so?
A brother is the future and a sister is a UFO
    And she’ll come rising from the tide, running riot up and down your coast;
shooting lasers from her eyes, eating bystanders, sinking boats.
You don’t want to go down neither — tell me if you see her, Tokyo.
Oh we’ve come too far — too far to be so far apart.

  12. “But she’s just one more rag now he’s dragging behind him” The Curse gets me every time. It’s so beautiful and sad.

  13. “I had a dream last night
And when I opened my eyes
    Your shoulder blade, your spine
Were shorelines in the moon light
    New worlds for the weary
    New lands for the living
I could make it if I tried
I closed my eyes I kept on swimming

    Time, love”
    – Josh Ritter

  14. “Every heart is a package tangled up in knots someone else tied”

This song has come to mean a lot to my best friend and I- we were driving along (or trying to) in Dallas Traffic, her boyfriend was in the backseat asleep, the sun was setting, and this song came on. Both of us only knew about 25% of the lyrics, but that didn’t stop us from shouting all we knew plus the other 75% in gibberish. I only get to see her a few times a year, because Texas is huge and school is impossible, but every time I do, we end up rockin’ out to Kathleen one way or another. Some of the most random, best times I’ve had with her.
