At the Water’s Edge by Sara Gruen
After embarrassing themselves at the social event of the year in high society Philadelphia on New Year’s Eve of 1942, Maddie and Ellis Hyde are cut off financially by Ellis’s father, a former army Colonel who is already embarrassed by his son’s inability to serve in WWII due to his being colorblind. To Maddie’s horror, Ellis decides that the only way to regain his father’s favor is to succeed in a venture his father attempted and very publicly failed at: he will hunt the famous Loch Ness monster and when he finds it he will restore his father’s name and return to his father’s good graces (and pocketbook). Joined by their friend Hank, a wealthy socialite, the three make their way to Scotland in the midst of war. Each day the two men go off to hunt the monster, while another monster, Hitler, is devastating Europe. And Maddie, now alone in a foreign country, must begin to figure out who she is and what she wants. The novel tells of Maddie’s social awakening: to the harsh realities of life, to the beauties of nature, to a connection with forces larger than herself, to female friendship, and finally, to love.

Amnesia by Peter Carey
When Gaby Baillieux released the Angel Worm virus into Australia’s prison system, the cell doors were opened and prisoners walked free. And because the Americans run the prisons—as they do so many parts of her country—the doors of some 5,000 jails in the US also opened. Was this a mistake, or a declaration of cyber war? Felix Moore—known to himself as “Australia’s last serving left-wing journalist”—is determined to write Gaby’s biography in order to find the answers, to save her, to save his career, and perhaps to save his country. But how to get Gaby to cooperate? Bringing together the world of hackers and radicals with the “special relationship” between the United States, the CIA, and Australia, Amnesia is Peter Carey at his best, a novel that speaks powerfully about our history—and our present.
For lovers of Gillian Flynn, the new thriller by Mary Louise Kelly is a fast paced suspense novel featuring a strong female heroine. A bullet is found lodged at the base of Caroline Cashion’s skull. Only she’s never been shot. Or so she thinks. Caroline’s once charmed life as a French Literature teacher is upended as she tries to discover the truth of her past. She was adopted when she was three years old, after her parents were murdered. She was wounded that night, a gunshot to the neck. The doctors stitched her up with the bullet still inside. While investigating her past she discovers that bullet is the same bullet that killed her mother. It passed right through her mother, and into Caroline’s neck. And now that bullet could solve her mother’s murder.Featured Event of the Month:

Featured Drink of the Month:
The Brandy Alexander
This holiday season you may be looking forward to your annual whiskey and eggnog tradition. But I challenge you to try something a little more interesting. It’s classic and incredibly easy to make!
A brandy Alexander is a brandy-based cocktail consisting of cognac and crème de cacao that became popular during the early 20th century. It is a variation of an earlier, gin-based cocktail called simply an Alexander.

Seems like a good list of books! Thanks for the post 🙂
Put ground nutmeg on anything I’m game.
Interesting List….
