Announcing the 185th Annual First Time Ever BookPeople Nation Carnival of Books!

Come one, come all! It’s time for the 185th Annual First Time Ever BookPeople Nation Carnival of Books!

Join us under the BookPeople Big Top on Saturday, August 8th as we celebrate all things books and reading with raucous merriment, bookish carnival games, tons of give-aways, an epic family read-aloud of our favorite kids stories, free books and, of course, CAKE!!! Test your literary strength with trivia and old fashioned book-balancing; aim thy wits and win prizes at Book Pong; visit our fortune teller for predictions of this year’s BIG fall books, and much more! Midday our Events Magicians will reveal our full fall author event line-up and toast the coming season with the finest affordable champagne.

Many wonders await! Join us as we say HUZZAH and THANK YOU for your continued support of your local independent bookstore with a day of games and fun for readers of all ages.

For a full schedule of the day’s festivities, visit

Q: Wait, what’s this all about? Why the heck are you doing this?

A: Those of you who joined us last year for our first National Bookstore Day for the BookPeople Nation (only at BookPeople) may recall a similar day of festivities, frivolity and fun. Once again, we want to take a moment to say thank you for your support in a big, fun, silly way. We’re gearing up for one of the biggest event seasons on record. It’s going to be a busy, exciting few months here in BookPeople Nation. Before all of the crazy whirlwind magic happens and we welcome you to meet dozens and dozens of incredible authors, we want to have a party, just you and us and cake and balloons and some good old fashioned Austin weird. We’re proud to be part of a strong nation of book lovers right here in the center of Texas and we reserve our right to celebrate and give you free stuff. So come on down and join us! It isn’t a party without you.

  1. This event that you are having is so cool, I live in Phoenix, Arizona, If I could afford it I would definitely attend Carnival of Books. Have fun and remember that reading is truly soup for the soul.
