INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE DAY is May 2nd!

independentlogo2After the success of the last year’s inaugural California Bookstore Day, independent bookstores across the nation will be participating in the First Annual Independent Bookstore Day on May 2nd, and we are thrilled to be one of them! In the words of Independent Bookstore Day Program Director Samantha Schoech,

“The entire purpose of Bookstore Day is to celebrate our collective success and thank our customers and the community of readers.”

The amazing truth of the matter is independent booksellers do have a reason to celebrate. Compared to last year, there are more indie book stores open around the country, and there were more last year than the year before that!

Independent bookstores are more relevant than ever. We’re proud to serve as a community center, providing opportunities for young people, including our numerous storytimes, literary summer camps and the Teen Press Corps. We are also honored to host the enthusiastic and engaged audiences who show up to our events with open minds and excellent questions. Nothing we do would be possible without the support of book lovers like you who shop with us and attend our events – thank you!

So how exactly will Book People be celebrating Independent Bookstore Day? On May 2nd – and May 2nd only – we will have special edition copies of some amazing books–both for children and adults–as well as one-of-a-kind art pieces and merchandise. Here’s a preview of what’s in store.
