Chris Hadfield is a retired Canadian astronaut who was also the first Canadian to walk in space. He is currently a professor at the University of Waterloo in the Faculty of Sciences. His autobiography, An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth: What Going to Space Taught Me About Ingenuity, Determination, and Being Prepared for Anything, is a bestselling compendium of Hadfield’s exciting, adrenaline-filled life, from his induction into the Canadian space program to clinging to the exterior of an orbiting spacecraft (!). According to his very thorough Wikipedia entry, Col. Hadfield agreed to let the make-up artists for a photo shoot for Maclean’s magazine do him up in the style of David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album cover and posted this popular Bowie-inspired video to YouTube:
So clearly Chris Hadfield is really cool beyond the obvious coolness of being an astronaut who has flown three space missions and clung to the side of a spacecraft.
The other extremely cool thing that Chris Hadfield has done recently is publish another book, You Are Here: Around the World in 92 Minutes: Photographs from the International Space Station.

A collection of beautiful photographs of Earth from space, the awe-inspiring view of our world from space is enhanced by Hadfield’s playful prose and thoughtful commentary from his singular perspective on science, our planet, the exploration of space, and the human condition.
BookPeople is psyched to have the extremely cool, smart, and beyond-well-traveled Col. Hadfield land in Austin on Wednesday, November 5 at 7pm. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to meet Col. Hadfield and gain a new perspective on the world in which we live from a man who has left the planet, only to return to share what he saw (even though he was temporarily blinded when he was clinging to the side of the spacecraft–so cool!).
Chris Hadfield will speak about and sign You Are Here: Around the World in 92 Minutes here at BookPeople on Wednesday, November 5 at 7pm. The speaking portion of the event is free and open to the public. Tickets are required for the signing and only available with the purchase of a copy of You Are Here: Around the World in 92 Minutes from BookPeople.
