HARDCOVER FICTION
Katie P.‘s New Release Pick of the Day: Love Me Back by Merritt Tierce
“Tierce’s novel cannot be lumped together with other fictional portrayals of addicts and wanderers, told in stark, purposefully alienating language, because we know its empathetic, intelligent, hopeful heart. This book will hurt you, and it will show you a thousand tiny, beautiful things while it does. And there’s a good chance that you will love it back.”
Merritt Tierce will be signing and reading in-store Monday, September 29 at 7PM!
Steven’s New Release Picks of the Day: Wolf in White Van by John Darnielle
“Darnielle explores the savage possibility of every moment by constructing a world, whose residents are primal, irresponsible, kind, and forgiving in equal measure. Their choices unfold universes of wonder and sorrow, and the consequences of consequences of consequences of their actions ricochet off each other endlessly toward a mysterious inevitability…”
John Darnielle will be speaking and signing in-store Monday, October 6 at 7PM!
Demi’s New Release Picks of the Day: The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters
“Sarah Waters’ latest is a great delight to fans of Fingersmith and Tipping the Velvet. I read it over a weekend with my family and could barely pay attention to dinner. Waters has always had a talent for the dramatic without turning into a penny dreadful, and The Paying Guests is no exception. The characters are resonant and passionate, the story is intensely captivating, and the writing is a treat. I want everyone I know to read this book immediately!”

But how did America become “one nation, indivisible”? In this monumental history, Simon Winchester addresses these questions, bringing together the breathtaking achievements of those American pioneers who helped to forge and unify the new nation, and who toiled fearlessly to bond the citizens and geography of the United States from its very beginnings.

The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey
Ta’Necia says: “I was really wondering how he would top The Fifth Wave. That book was so good! Yancey exceeded my expectations. The Infinite Sea is action-packed. It has a great storyline and I love how we get additional character points of view. It’s a lot of fun to get to know their backgrounds and perspectives. I can’t wait for the movie! It’s going to be so good!”
COMICS AND GRAPHIC NOVELS
by Italo Calvino
Bumperhead follows Bobby, a young slacker who narrates his life as it happens but offers very little reflection on the events that transpire. He lives in the moment exclusively and is incapable of seeing the world outside of his experiences. He comes of age in the 1970s, making a rapid progression through that era’s different subcultures and in a short period of time segues from a stoner glam rocker to a drunk rocker to a speed-freak punk. He drifts in and out of relationships with friends, both male and female. Life zooms past him. Hernandez’s approach captures the numbness and raw undirected anger and passion of a young man who waits for life to happen to him, not noticing all the while that it is happening. Subtle and thought-provoking, Bumperhead is a fascinating read.
