Gearing Up for the Texas Teen Book Festival!

This week, we are focusing on the festival opening keynote speaker, James Dashner, the best selling author of The Maze Runner series and the new series, The Mortality Doctrine. The Eye of Minds is the first book in The Mortality Doctrine, a series set in a world of hyper-advanced technology, cyberterrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams . . . and your worst nightmares. The latest book in the series, The Rule of Thoughts, will be available at TTBF14, along with Dashner’s other books.

5 Fun Facts About James Dashner:

1. He used to be an accountant.
2. He was obsessed with the TV show LOST.
3. He once saved a kid from being hit by a bus.
4. He once had cupcakes and tea with “Judy Freaking Blume” (his words).
5. He’s into movies just as much as he’s into books.

James Dashner will also be taking questions about his books, The Maze Runner movie, and signing books!!! If that doesn’t get you excited, we will have more than 20 other authors in attendance who will also be speaking and signing your favorite books! Check out the full TTBF14 line up here.

Odds & Ends

One of our favorite authors, Rainbow Rowell, talks about her writing career, her favorite band, her childhood, and more. We love you Rainbow!
“Still, with a newfound confidence in her writing, she set forth writing her next book. Eleanor & Park would be the novel that catapulted her into YA superstardom, but before she could write it, she would need to confront the more heart-wrenching memories of her own childhood.” Read more.

Meet Malala Yousafzai, a teenager from Afghanistan who stood up to the Taliban. Recently, she was introduced by J.K. Rowling at the Edinburgh Book Festival, “Malala is an inspiration to girls and women all over the world. It is a real honour for me to introduce her.”

Malala has an amazing story. She has written a book about her life and campaign for equality and education. She said in Edinburgh, “My story is the story of thousands of children from around the world. I hope it inspires others to stand up for their rights. If we want to see the next big change (of every child going to school) we need to become the change ourselves and bring the change.” Read the full article.

  1. Reblogged this on Kat Webber and commented:
I totally wish I could go to the Austin Book Festival. I would love to meet James Dashner!! I am so excited that the second book in “The Mortality Doctrine” just came out.
Plus Marie Lu and Rick Yancey will be there?? *literature swoon*

  2. Sorry if the wording of that line was misleading, but Rick Yancey will not be at Texas Teen Book Festival. We are really looking forward to his new book coming out on Sept. 16th. But YES! Marie Lu is going to be at TTBF14! Check back with us the week after the festival to see if we have any signed books by your favorite authors. We never know what books we’ll have but we will definitely share that list here on the blog. Hope you can make it to a TTBF in the future. They are tons of fun!
