Stephen Colbert issued another call-to-arms on his show last night as he continues to wage his war against the online retailer that’s holding Hachette books hostage as part of a dispute over terms.
California, the upcoming novel by Edan Lupecki, is currently not available to pre-order from Amazon as a result of a dispute that has absolutely nothing to do with Lupecki or her brilliant new novel about life in an eerie, disturbing, post-apocalyptic near-future. Not willing to see a debut novel turned to dust by a corporate struggle that prohibits access to books, Colbert has encouraged everyone to go out and pre-order California from a local bookstore and make it #1 on the New York Times bestseller list when it hits shelves on July 8th.
We’re thrilled to see Colbert champion such a deserving novel. We’ve read early copies of California and have been buzzing about this book to one another for months. We’ve already slated it as our Top Shelf pick in our newsletter for July (spoiler alert!) and Alex, one of our managers (and head of our End of the World Book Club), has already given it a wonderful review.
So let’s do it! Let’s make California #1! Pre-order your copy of California now. And when Stephen asks, make sure you tell him you bought it at BookPeople!
