Nightmare Factory Book Club Howls At the Moon

~post by Steve(n)

With the full moon this month coinciding with Valentine’s Day this month, we of the Nightmare Factory Book Club were put in mind not of the transformative power of love but rather the necessary heartbreak and bestial desires of the werewolf. Every month, our lycanthropic brethren must divest themselves of their humanity, abandoning all ties to society in order to obey the irrefutable commands of their lunar master and gorge themselves on the flesh of the living. Maintaining healthy and respectful relationships must become a difficult undertaking when one’s primary motivating factor is to devour one’s friends and family.

Bearing this in mind, join the Nightmare Factory this Tuesday, February 18th at 8PM in the BookPeople cafe to commiserate with our werewolf cousins and discuss Glen Duncan‘s existential examination of human self-preservation Talulla Rising.

In the highly-anticipated sequel to the Shirley Jackson Award-finalist The Last Werewolf, Talulla Demetriou, reeling from the murder of her were-lover Jake Marlowe, is exiled and pregnant, hiding from the shadow government that seeks to eradicate all occult phenomena, herself included. When a vampire prophecy names her unborn child as the key to undead supremacy of the human world, Talulla and her pack must face an unexpected conspiracy of blood-eating assassins to save themselves and redeem the sinister obligations of their species.

A visceral treatise on loss, love, and responsibility, Talulla Rising exceeds the philosophical expectations of its predecessor, reminding the reader that, beneath the superficial sheen of humanity, the potential for monstrosity exists within all of us.

This month’s fiendish fraternization of the Nightmare Factory Book Club is made especially electrifying by the bizarre BookPeople event immediately preceding it. Arrive an hour early at 7PM on Tuesday, Feb 18, to witness author Glen Duncan discussing the hair-raising conclusion to his werewolf trilogy By Blood We Live before descending to the bowels of the cafe at 8PM to deconstruct the middle chapter Talulla Rising.

The Nightmare Factory Book Club meets at 8PM in the ominously bone-scattered den of the BookPeople Cafe on the third Tuesday of every month to unleash the madness that lives just below the surface (specifically as it pertains to horror fiction).

We are always on the prowl for new additions to the pack, so, if you feel curiosity nibbling at your psyche, roam over to BookPeople this Tuesday for a literary feast and help us bark at the moon.
