Book: The Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan
“Lately I have been roaring for art that demonstrates a practical understanding of influences on the identity of women across history. The Valley of Amazement is the perfect canvas for Amy Tan to shed light on the cultural trends affecting women in both Asia and America at the turn of last century, and to celebrate all the power women enjoy and the weaknesses with which we struggle on a global level. Tan has outdone herself by weaving a tale of love and discovery in the veiled world of courtesan lovers. It’s coquettish, intimate, painful, inspiring and joyous. From clever entendres to choking heartbreak, Tan doesn’t miss a beat.”

Hi! I follow your blog and I was wondering if you could help me out on Friday when I launch my Kickstarter by reposting something on your blog? It is a really exciting project, and I really like your blog.
Thanks!!! canadianhayes.com

WordPress suggested I follow your blog and the more I read the happier I am. I love your short reviews and know if I were to walk into your store, I wouldn’t talk with just anyone on the sales floor. I’d meet a book lover and someone that knows the books available and perhaps someone I’d built a casual friendship with. I was a book buyer for B&N for a short time after I retired from the government but the happiest when I was on the floor of a store selling books. I’m also thrilled you are an independent. That gives me hope. I have a huge ‘to be read’ pile (like all lovers of books) but 3 of the books you mentioned in this blog are now on my must read list. I posted my top 10 fiction for 2012 from a total of 77 fiction books I read last year. I didn’t compare non-fiction but may do so this year.
