buy now!The Night Guest by Fiona McFarlane

The Night Guest, Fiona McFarlane’s hypnotic first novel, is no simple tale of a crime committed and a mystery solved. This is a tale that soars above its own suspense to tell us, about ageing, love, trust, dependence, and fear; about processes of colonization; and about things (and people) in places they shouldn’t be.

HARD COVER NON-FICTION

buy now!The Kraus Project translated by Jonathan Franzen

A hundred years ago, the Viennese satirist Karl Kraus was among the most penetrating and farsighted writers in Europe. In his self-published magazine, Die Fackel, Kraus brilliantly attacked the popular media’s manipulation of reality, the dehumanizing machinery of technology and consumer capitalism, and the jingoistic rhetoric of a fading empire. In The Kraus Project, Franzen, whose “calm, passionate critical authority” has been praised in The New York Times Book Review, not only presents his definitive new translations of Kraus but annotates them spectacularly, with supplementary notes from the Kraus scholar Paul Reitter and the Austrian author Daniel Kehlmann.

  1. I never knew Garrison Keillor was writing poetry! I haven’t read anything of hos in such a long time. I don’t remember the last book of his I read but it started out “Evelyn was an insomniac so when they tell you she died in her sleep you have to question that”. LOL! Love his sense of humor. Thanks for the suggestion!
