The Infinite Moment of Us by Lauren Myracle
“This coming of age story follows Wren Gray. Wren has always pleased her parents, now she’s graduating high school they have plans for her college career and she’s had enough. This book is so exciting and romantic. Lauren Myracle writes really authentic characters. Wren in all of her confusion in striving to be true to herself, find what she really wants, fall in love(?)- has all the complexity of a real young woman transitioning into an adult. It’s definitely a must read.”

Longbourn by Jo Baker
“One of the joys of being a bookseller is that we get to read advance copies of books sometimes months before they are officially released. I’ve been enjoying reading Longbourn by Jo Baker (to be released in October). The story takes place in the world of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, exploring the lives and loves of the servants of the Bennet’s Longbourn estate. While Austen’s original storyline is touched upon, this novel reminds us that the feelings of housemaids, cooks and footmen are just as profound and deeply felt as those of the gentry. Readers counting down the days until the 4th season of Downton Abbey (guilty!) will find this novel a soothing balm.”

Jim Henson: The Biography by Brian Jay Jones
jim-henson-cover“I’ve got about 140 pages left in the 500 page monumental biography of Jim Henson that’s coming out in September. Written by Brian Jay Jones who previously tackled the life of Washington Irving, this is the kind of biography that I love the most: focus on the art and the life and leave the gossip behind. It’s an intriguing read and well-written. I wish there was more than half a chapter devoted to The Dark Crystal, but, hey, we can’t have everything we want. And just this morning I found out that my favorite contemporary theater director, Julie Taymor, was one of the first recipients of the Jim Henson Fellowship grants for aspiring puppeteers (If you haven’t seen her work with puppetry for the Lion King Broadway musical, you ain’t seen nothing yet.) This book is gonna be HUGE this fall and if you ever loved Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Dark Crystal, Fraggle Rock, Labryinth, and more you will totally enjoy this book.”

SHAPPY

Super Boys by Brad Ricca
“Super Boys is the story of the teen creators of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster- the real life inspiration for Michael Chabon’s Kavalier and Clay. This is the first ever full biography of the duo and it’s amazing. It pulls from over ten years of research. If you loved Man of Steel, you owe it to yourself to learn the true origin of Superman!”
