Updated Guidelines for Our Event with Sonia Sotomayor

Tomorrow we have the honor of hosting Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor here at BookPeople (Wednesday, January 23 at 6:30pm). The response to this event has been tremendous. We’re expecting a packed store tomorrow night. As a result, we’ve made a few revisions to our guidelines. If you plan to attend, please be aware of the following:

*Tickets: The speaking portion of the event is free and open to the public. Tickets are only required for the signing portion of the event. Tickets are only available with the purchase of a copy of My Beloved World from BookPeople. Tickets are lettered. After Justice Sotomayor speaks, we’ll call people to line up to have their books signed according to the letter on their tickets. Books & tickets are available in-store and via bookpeople.com.

*Seating: We have a limited amount of seating available. As a result, our seating will be reserved for those who cannot physically stand for the duration of Justice Sotomayor’s talk. Standing room will be available for everyone else who would like to hear her talk.

*Bag Check: For security reasons, we cannot allow bags upstairs during the event. This includes purses. You may leave your bag with us at our bag check, or, better yet, leave it in your car. For those of you familiar with our bag check policy, please be aware that it will be even more strict than usual.

*Photography/Videography: No video recording will be allowed at this event. No flash photography. Posed photos will not be allowed at the signing table.

*Signing Guidelines: Books will not be personalized. Only copies of My Beloved World will be signed at this event, no memorabilia.

Justice Sotomayor’s talk will be broadcast on our first floor, as well. If you have any questions, please send an email to online@bookpeople.com.

  1. Will SLR cameras be allowed at the event tonight? Those are cameras with removable lenses. It won’t have a flash. Thanks!
