2012 was a big year for Star Trek fans. It was the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation which saw the release of Seasons 1 & 2 on Blu-Ray and, for those of us lucky enough to get tickets, a live cast reunion here in Austin during the Austin Wizard World Comic Con! Take it from me, it was a cosmic event! Google had an awesome doodle for the 46th anniversary of the first broadcast of the original series and recently the trailer for the next J.J. Abram’s Star Trek just appeared on-line and whenever a new Trek movie is on the horizon, that means more awesome Trek stuff starts appearing! Here’s some of the best books that have come out recently-
Star Trek: The Next Generation 365 by Paula M. Block & Terry J. Erdmann
I have Star Trek : The Original Series 365 by these same two authors and was amazed by all the new photos and facts that were contained within. This brick of Trek trivia is just as impressive giving us the goods behind the scenes of TNG! With over 700 pages of factoids and never-before-seen pictures, this will satisfy even the nit-pickiest Next Gen fan! A great companion to have handy as you watch the remastered episodes on Blu-Ray.

Star Trek : The Complete Unauthorized History by Robert Greenberger
This big book of all things Trek covers the entire franchise. From Roddenberry’s struggles to get the original series on the air all the way up to J.J. Abram’s 2009 film. Since it’s “unauthorized” there are no “official” pictures from the show or the movies but instead uses pictures of all of the promotional materials and merchandise made for Star Trek. This makes the book a sort of collector’s checklist of sorts. You can beam with pride seeing something you already have or start looking for stuff you never even knew existed on eBay! Greenburger gets a lot of interviews and trivia from Trekkies who attended the first ever conventions and folks from behind the scenes! No matter what series you are loyal to, there is something here for all Trek fans.

Baby’s first Star Trek book! It is your prime directive as a Trek-loving parent to raise your future Starfleet cadet with this delightful board book that uses images from classic Trek to illustrate the concept of opposites! Make it so (cute)!

This one is scheduled to come out on Christmas Day and I couldn’t be geeking out about it any harder than I am right now! Before Star Trek The Motion Picture hit theaters in 1979, a daily comic strip started appearing in newspapers to reacquaint the public with the crew of the Enterprise. The strip continued to run after the movie and even past Wrath of Khan! I only had a vague notion that this comic strip even existed and I’m really excited to visit this particular “Undiscovered Country”!I’m sure there will be more exciting Trek titles heading our way in 2013 as we get closer to the new movie opening, until then, hang your Hallmark Star Trek commemorative ornaments with care and of course, live long and prosper!
