…..we fall in love. Dan Rather was here Friday night (date night if there ever was one), and his kindness and wit won us over. Was it listening to him talk about how the conglomerates running our nation’s news corporations ought to think of news as a public service? Was it his on-the-spot breakdown of Middle East politics? His live Ratherisms (“He who lives by a crystal ball learns to eat a lot of glass”)? Was it the way he said thank you every time we handed him a book during the stock signing? Oh, it was all of these things. He sealed the deal when he walked around the author handler’s car to open the driver’s side door for her before they departed for the evening; the consummate gentleman.

Dan, you are THE MAN. And we love you. If you want to feel a piece of the love, pick up a signed copy of Rather Outspoken. In his generosity, he signed many copies for us. *Sigh*
