First Lines of Haruki Murakami’s ‘1Q84’

The Millions has this exclusive today:  the first lines of Haruki Murakami’s highly anticipated new novel 1Q84. The novel sold over 100,000 copies its first week on sale in Japan back in 2009 (it’s been a long wait for readers here in the States.)

Artist Chip Kidd discussed designing the book cover for 1Q84 back in March.

The book goes on sale here October 25. You can preorder your copy through our website now.

  1. Hmm, tantalizing first lines, but not quite “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” or “It is a truth universally acknowledged that…”

I did look up a brief outline of the upcoming novel – the basic marketing description – and it reminded me of “Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said” by Philip K. Dick. I could be way off base, but I guess I’ll find out once I read the book.
