A Note from Paul Harper (aka David Lindsey in Disguise)

It’s been a few years since we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming mystery writer David Lindsey, now writing as Paul Harper, to BookPeople. On Monday, July 11 at 7p, the wait is over!

Lindsey will be here for an event with MysteryPeople, BookPeople’s mystery bookstore-within-a-bookstore.  He’ll be talking about his new thriller, the first in a series set in San Francisco, Pacific Heights.

Lindsey set along a message for us to share, giving us a glimpse of his new series. We hope you can join us on Monday, July 11, 7p to help us welcome back this wonderful Austin author.

Dear Friends,

After seven years silence, I’m returning to the fiction lists with a new series under the pseudonym Paul Harper. Pacific Heights, the first volume in a multi-book serial novel, focuses on the meaning of what we hold most dear: our secrets. The novel introduces Marten Fane, a former San Francisco Police Department intelligence officer who is now working independently. Fane’s expertise is solving other people’s problems–quietly. Ver Lisa, a psychoanalyst, contacts Fane for help when she discovers that someone is breaking into her confidential files, and is using the secret thoughts and fantasies of her clients to manipulate their lives.

The fictional narrative is rooted in a dangerous new reality: since 9-11, the private sector involvement in the national security industry has mushroomed, pushing an increasingly wider distribution of Top Secret intelligence into the hands of government contractors. Now more htan one millions private employees have complete access to our most sensitive national security secrets–and our private lives.

As Marten Fane uncovers one of the most elaborate–and shocking–psychological experiments imaginable, he discovers, with chilling consequences, that in the post-9-11 world, privacy has become an obsolete concept. Our secrets are no longer our secrets.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you after you’ve read Pacific Heights. I hope you enjoy it, as well as the future novels in the continuing Marten Fane story.
