What’s Happening in BookPeople’s Kids’ Department

We don’t often talk about the kids’ section here on the BookPeople blog since they have their own blog over at BookPeople Kids.  However, they have so many cool things happening this summer that we thought we should take a moment to share a few things that are going on:

The Alligator Society

As a child, Jane Goodall liked to take her favorite stuffed animal outside to make observations about nature.  She called her little club the Alligator Society. In her honor, we’re starting our own Alligator Society this summer for kids ages 5-8 (and their stuffed animals). For more information on how to sign your child up for the BookPeople Alligator Society, click here.

New Releases

Hopper & Wilson
By Maria Van Lieshout
Stories about fast friends seeking great adventure on the high seas never go out of style. And these two chums face a doozy of a predicament when one of them falls over the edge of their charmingly impractical newspaper boat in the middle of a terrible storm. But you will have to read this adorably illustrated tale for yourself to find out if the power of friendship can ultimately save the day!

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
By Catherynne M. Valente
Recommended for ages 10 and up

Valente’s archly narrated fairy tale enchanted us from its first sentence, and we savored every moment of its plucky heroine’s strange and perilous journey through fairyland. Slyly winking at many of the greatest stories ever told, this remarkable novel deftly weaves hints of those familiar tales into a boldly original adventure filled with a menacing and beguiling magic that’s decidedly and joyously its own.

Signed Books

Finally, we have a bunch of great signed books from various events we’ve had over the last few months.

For example, we have lots of wonderful books signed by the always funny Mo Willems. (Don’t believe he’s funny? Click on the video below to see just how hilarious he is.)
