PAPER TOWNS Movie News Extravaganza!

It has been a super busy week for news about the Paper Towns movie. Based on the fantastic novel by one of our faves, John Green, Paper Towns is – in the simplest terms – about a boy named Quentin and the mysterious – and disappearing – Margot Roth Spiegelman. In addition to the poster reveal, the first official trailer was released this morning on the TODAY show!

We’ve compiled all the Paper Towns goodies on the Teen Press Corps blog. Click on over for more delectable tidbits and everything Paper Towns. ENJOY!

Cover Reveal!

Scott Westerfeld’s books (Uglies, Leviathan) are popular here with staff and customers. We were stoked when he attended Texas Teen Book Festival last October and hinted at his next book in an exclusive interview with the TPC, and we are again excited to hear more about that book called Zeroes, co-authored with Australian authors Margo Lanagan and Deb Biancotti.

Scott writes about the cover design and how it came about – he’s quite proud of it – and a little about the co-author process and what the book is about on his blog. The book, which is the first book of a new trilogy, doesn’t come out until the end of September, but it sounds great – superheroes, but with powers that “kind of suck.”

Bonus: Here’s the jacket for the paperback of Afterworlds! Paperback also comes out in September!

SHADOW SCALE Is Finally Here!

The sequel to the amazing and magical book, Seraphina by Rachel Hartman, is finally here! Shadow Scale is the continuation of Seraphina’s quest to save her kingdom. It has been almost three years since the first book’s release, and we cannot wait to get our grubby hands on this sequel now! Shadow Scale just released in hardcover on March 10th, 2015!

BookKids staffer Ellen has read Shadow Scale and has this to say:
“This is another beautifully written story by Hartman. I love Seraphina as a character – she’s smart, flawed, compassionate, and so devastatingly human despite being half dragon. The journey Seraphina undertakes in Shadow Scale is of epic proportions and, at times, becomes overwhelming and isolating for her. Her grotesques of the garden of her mind are brought to life, and this causes a great internal struggle. Jannoula returns with stunning and shocking violence and evil intent; she makes for a strong and worthy adversary. The world and characters Hartman has created with these books are unlike any others. The level of writing is elevated, intricate, and demands the reader pay attention. Wonderful books and I hope we don’t have to wait another three years for her next one.”

April Events!

Just a reminder that we have three fabulous YA events at the store next month. Authors David Levithan, Ally Carter, Justine Larbalestier, Heather Brewer, Sara Raasch, Danielle Page, Victoria Aveyard, and Neal Shusterman will all be coming by! Check out all the details on this wrap up. Don’t miss them!

Teen Press Corps Reviews

books to cuddle up with
Even though the weather is finally warming up, the TPC reporters recall some of their favorite books to curl up with when things get a little grey and gloomy. Here is a sample from the full article.

its kind of a funny storyKendall

It’s A Funny Story by Ned Vizinni
One of the best novels to cuddle up with! Reminiscent to The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chobksy, It’s A Funny Story is about a young boy who is struggling with feelings he doesn’t quite understand. The main character, 16-year-old Craig Gilner, contemplates jumping off a bridge and ending his short-lived life. He doesn’t jump though. Instead, he checks in a hospital to get help. He meets various people with various afflictions. These people not only teach him how to deal with his problems but also how to love and understand other people. You will laugh. You will cry. And you will definitely want to hold this book tight to your chest and scream!

gracelingAurora

Graceling by Kristin Cashore
I can snuggle up with any book, but my favorite book to do that with is Graceling by Kristin Cashore. Graceling and the other books in the series (Fire and Bitterblue) are mostly intense, action packed reads, and I love them so much that I can’t resist re-reading them when the weather is gloomy.
