Maile Meloy Works Her Magic

photo

The wonderful Maile Meloy was in the store last night to read from her new novel for middle grade readers, The Apprentices. This is the second in a series that began with one of our all time favorite books, The ApothecaryMeloy read for a bit, took questions, and then sat down at our signing table to do a few magic tricks.

She also recommended a few of her favorite books:

Old Filth by Jane Gardham

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke

The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

The Ruby in the Smoke by Philip Pullman

In addition to creating colorful clouds of smoke with the snap of a finger, Maile signed quite a few copies of both The Apprentices and The Apothecary for our shelves. Come down and grab a copy or visit us on bookpeople.com, where they’re also available.

Thanks, Maile!

  1. I loved the last three of the four books she recommended and have been meaning to read Old Filth for a long time. (If only it had a different title!) Now I definitely need to move it up the list.
