Tonight The Stand Up Sit Down Book Club is Having Only Bad Ideas

~post by Steven
Last night, I dreamed that Chris Gethard burned down my house.  After having read A Bad Idea I’m About To Do in its entirety, it took me a little longer than normal to shake the dream-logic off of this particular night-terror.  It’s not that Chris Gethard is an arsonist or even a bad guy; in fact, he’s quite the opposite (Note: I have no proof that Chris Gethard is the opposite of an arsonist).  It’s just that his impulsiveness and erratic behavior would suggest that it isn’t necessarily outside the realm of possibility for your house to be on fire at the end of a good hangin’ session with Chris Gethard.  Join the Stand Up Sit Down book club tonight, Monday July 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the BookPeople cafe, where we will be fanning the comedy flames of this dream warrior’s explosive memoir A Bad Idea I’m About To Do.

Wracked with mania, these awkward, confessional essays deliver a suckerpuch of high-strung, inelegant delight as the author recounts his bungled attempts at adulthood and the perpetual quest for genuine humanity in his own, troubled life.  A Bad Idea I’m About To Do makes no excuses for the author’s bad behavior – the only saving grace of Gethard’s insanity is that maybe, through his brooding introspection, you can avoid some of his hilarious mistakes in your own blundering existence.

The Stand Up Sit Down book club meets at 7:00 p.m. in BookPeople’s funhouse of a cafe on the last Monday of every month to discuss the memoirs of comedy giants, comedy dwarves, and comedy average-sized-people.  Swing by tonight for some Chris Gethardian palaver – whether it’s your take on A Bad Idea I’m About To Do, some witty insights into his screwball public access show The Chris Gethard Show, or speculations as to why Big Lake was cancelled so quickly (Hint: ratings).  We hope to see you there, and, be warned, the flowers in our lapels are all armed with seltzer water.
