Beat the Heat With A Terrifying Distraction

~post by Steven
As the Texas foliage begins to wither and crumble in the unrelenting heat of the summer sun, the time is once again upon us for a sinister meeting of the minds this Tuesday when THE NIGHTMARE FACTORY book club will be aggregating at 8:00 p.m. in the cafe to discuss The Red Tree by Caitlin R. Kiernan.  Embark on a hallucinatory vision-quest with us this week as we crawl through the cryptic code that constitutes this craven literary concoction.  The onionskin pages will be like cracked and convoluted oak leaves as the circuitous plot ensnares you in the shadowy boughs below.

The Red Tree looms heavily over an anguished, middle-aged writer as she seeks asylum from her memories in a Rhode Island farm house with a questionable past.  With the discovery of an abandoned manuscript in an endless basement, her obsession with a sylvan totem caves in to reveal a delirious landslide of remorse and rage.  Her journal is the only surviving memento of her journey through madness, and this dusty, literary relic is truly a work of phantasmagorical art.

Slither out of your labyrinthine caverns this Tuesday May 21st to join us in the frigid air conditioning of the BookPeople cafe at 8:00 p.m. to discuss The Red Tree by Caitlin R. Kiernan, as well as yetis, wendigos, abominable snowmen, banshees, ice monsters, and anything else to distract us from the impossible heat outside.  Come fertilize our conversation with your input so that our spooky seeds will blossom into carrion flowers of creativity.
