Happy Children’s Book Week!

Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. As co-founder Frederic Melcher declared: “A great nation is a reading nation.” We agree! We’re celebrating Children’s Book Week this year with a visit from Austin author Michael Fry this Saturday, May 18 at 2PM

Michael has a great new series called The Odd Squad, in which Nick, the shortest seventh-grader in the history of the world, is forced to join the school’s lamest club to be cured of what his guidance counselor calls “peer allergies”. What starts off as a reluctant band of hopeless oddballs morphs into an empowered team ready to face whatever middle school throws at them. Illustrated throughout with Michael’s original artwork, The Odd Squad promises to please young readers who enjoy the comic underdog stylings of Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Michael Fry has been a cartoonist/writer/entrepreneur for over 30 years. In addition to The Odd Squad, Fry has created or co/created four international syndicated comic strips including Over the Hedge which runs in over 150 papers worldwide.

Those who come out to meet Michael Fry on Saturday will also receive a free, limited edition Children’s Book Week tote bag featuring Brian Selznick’s original art!
