10 Wonderfully Weird Books for Kids

You may know we’re more than a little invested in keeping things weird around here, hence the display you’ll currently encounter on our first floor, across from the staircase. Curiosity goes way beyond Wonderland with these books – a pet glacier, a duck who strikes up a friendship with Death, and of course a dip into classic Sendak surreality. A few of our favorites from the display are listed below. For all the weird you can handle, head upstairs to the kid’s section and visit Keeping Austin Weird, One Book at a Time…. We have a whole section dedicated to keepin’ it weird! Just doing our part to make sure not one iota of Austin is boring, ever.

Cecil the Pet Glacier by Matthea Harvey, illustrated by Giselle Potter

In the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak

The Garden of Abdul Gasazi by Chris Van Allsburg

Never Catch a Cold by André François

The Boy & the Airplane by Mark Pett

Duck, Death and the Tulip by Wolf Erlbruch

Nocturne by Isol, illustrated by Elisa Amada

Ribbit by Rodrigo Folgueira, illustrated by Poly Bernatene

A Boy & His Bunny by Sean Bryan, illustrated by Tom Murphy

The Sound of Colors by Jimmy Liao
