Outside the Wire

Outside The Wire is a testimony of the most important kind. If there are any truths to be learned from our long wars, they may well be found in these pages. A powerful, and powerfully necessary, collection.”–Kevin Powers, author of The Yellow Birds.

Author Christine Leche traveled to a forward operating base near the Afghanistan-Pakistani border to teach writing to US soldiers stationed there. The result of their work together is the new book, Outside the Wire: American Soldiers’ Voices from Afghanistan, a collection of thirty-eight deeply personal reflections about the war experience. Leche will be here at BookPeople tomorrow, Wednesday, April 3 at 7pm, speaking about her time teaching there and sharing the soliders’ stories. If you can make it, we hope you’ll join us. The work Christine has done to bring these voices forward and help us understand the war experience is vital. We’re grateful to have her here to share with us. If you can’t make it, we hope you’ll check out the book.
