Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made by Stephan Pastis

Hey, Kids!
My name is Shappy. I work upstairs at BookPeople. I get to see all of the cool new books before they get on the shelves! Growing up in the 20th century, I learned how to read by reading the adventures of Charlie Brown and Snoopy in the newspaper. I loved comics so much I used to clip them out and paste them in scrapbooks. Let’s face it, I was a nerd! I still like to read the comics in the paper, in fact I draw cartoons for a website myself! So when the ladies in the marketing office told me that Stephan Pastis is coming to Book People I got pretty excited! Mr. Pastis happens to be the creator of one of my favorite comic strips, Pearls Before Swine. I was asked to read his new book, called Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made.
Timmy Failure is a boy detective who happens to have a 1,500 pound Polar Bear named Total for a partner. Together they are TOTAL FAILURE, INC. Timmy has big dreams and ambitions about becoming the biggest detective agency in the world. If only his teachers, classmates and mother weren’t holding him back. Also he has to deal with his rival girl detective, Corrina Corrina, and the fact that his partner eats a lot of evidence and then falls asleep in front of the door he is trying to get out of.
Timmy may not be as smart as Encyclopedia Brown but he does have a lot more business sense. This book has a lot of Timmy’s secret files in it that show you all of Total Failure’s crime-solving notes and business plans. You guys, this book is SUPER FUNNY! Lots of little jokes (and big ones too) and I like how Mr. Pastis uses his hilarious drawings to help tell the story or deliver a sight gag. If you’re a fan of Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, and other books like them, you can give those to your kid brother or sister (or literate house pet or helper monkey) because there is NO WAY those books are as funny and clever as Timmy Failure! This looks like it’s the first of a series and I think it’s going to be a TOTAL SUCCESS!
So if you like to laugh and like funny little pictures of polar bears, please read this book!
