LOVE, candy hearts, roses, and twitterpation – we love Valentine’s Day! Here are a few of our favorite kid’s books that celebrate all that is splendid about love!
My Heart is Like a Zoo by Michael Hall
Artists Michael Hall creates some of our favorite animals out of heart shapes in this book, which is one of our all-time favorites! We love this book so much that we throw a party around it every year. This year, join us for storytime on Wednesday, February 13 at 10:30am when we’ll read My Heart is Like a Zoo and then make valentines for the special people in our lives.
Hug Time by Patrick McDonnell
Hugs make the world a better place. It’s just true. In this sweet book, Jules the kitten (you’ll recognize him from McDonnell’s popular comic strip Mutts) makes a “Hug To-Do List”. Simple and endearing, Hug Time comes in a board book edition, perfect for your smallest Valentine.
The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond
Not only is love in the air, it’s falling from the sky! Cornelia Augusta has no trouble catching them all, or knowing exactly who to send them to. Felicia Bond is the illustrator of the If You Give A…. series written by Laura Numeroff. We love her work and have a special place in our hearts for this darling book!
I Like You by Sandol Stoddard
There are all kinds of love to celebrate on Valentine’s Day. I Like You celebrates the love we feel for our friends. With illustrations by award-winning artist Jacqueline Chwast, I Like You pays tribute to the true meaning of friendship.
Mr. Pusskins: A Love Story by Sam Lloyd
Mr. Pusskins will get to the heart of the most persnickety of Valentines. Mr. Pusskins doesn’t want to snuggle, he doesn’t want to be pampered, or hear a bedtime story. He wants adventure out in the big, wild world! But of course, like your own adventurous Valentine, Mr. Pusskins has plenty of love waiting for him at home.
