Teen Thursday

Happy Thursday YA lovers! This week we it’s all about our January’s YA Buzz Book.

We couldn’t be more excited for Just One Day by Gayle Forman. There is a lot of well deserved buzz around this title, and we can’t wait to host Gayle Friday, January 18.

About Just One Day:
When sheltered American good girl Allyson “LuLu” Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

You might know Gayle from her wildly successful books If I Stay and it’s sequel Where She Went. Like so many authors she pulls from her own life for her writing, as a result her work feels genuine and intimate. Check out her very personal tour of NYC she created for Where She Went:

Gayle has done a very similar thing for Just One Day with it’s facebook page. She includes her own photographs of people and places that have helped influence the book. Such as:

“Paris’s Gare du Nord. Here is where the EuroStar to and from London arrives and departs. It’s also the start of Allyson and Willem’s Paris adventure.” —Gayle

“The amphitheater in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark that plays a pivotal role in Just One Day. I think I saw some concerts there in the 1990s.” —Gayle

“I photographed this pink bike outside a house in Utrecht, Holland that I was considering as a model for a place where Willem had once lived. And then I didn’t give it any more thought. Or so I thought. Allyson winds up with a pink bike much like this one. Guess this one snuck into my subconscious. Funny how things like that happen. Also, I ride a pink bike myself.” —Gayle
