Ta’Necia with one of her favorite authors, Richelle Mead!

Ta’Necia recently joined the team at BookPeople. One of her favorite sections here is Teen Fiction and Fantasy. She yearns for customers to ask her questions about anything teen related and is willing to go the extra mile to find that special book for you or your teen. She was also voted “Most likely to survive the Apocalypse” by her BookPeople peers. When Ta’Necia isn’t stalking authors on Twitter, you can find her getting lost in a book, book talking on Goodreads, or blogging about her latest reads. Here are her Top 5 books of 2012….

Deity by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Deity is the third book in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Covenant series. Jennifer has become one of my favorite authors since her Obsidian series and I can truly say she gets better with every book! I cannot express how amazing her stories are so all I can say is, read this now! Deity is the continuation of Alex’s journey to becoming one of the God Killers when she turns 18. As her birthday comes ever so near, the God’s and Furies will stop at nothing to stop her from becoming the “Apollyon”, a threat to all Gods who are supposed to be immortal. The Covenant series is a must read for lovers of YA Fantasy and Greek Mythology

Revolution 19 by Gregg Rosenblum

Revolution 19 is a great Dystopian read for young adults! In a world were technology was built to help us comes the day that technology turns against us. The story involves two brothers and one sister who live on the outskirts of a high-tech society where humans live under the vicious rule of robots and are brain washed to believe it’s for the greater good of human kind. When the robots find and attack their secret village the teens are forced to leave their parents behind, but when the teens get word that their parents are being held captive they return to the city they tried so hard to get away from. I know…this books screams terminator for YA but it is a really great start to a new series, to be released January 2013.

The Farm  by Emily McKay

The Farm is yet another spooky dystopian world where a Vampirism virus breaks out and turns humans into vampire-like creatures called “Ticks”. When the world becomes overpopulated by these blood sucking mutated humans, the government forces teenagers into the camps to become the main blood supply to keep the ticks under control.

Lily and her twin sister Mel have been at The Farm for a few months now and under the inhumane living condition and abuse from the Warden. They want out. When the sisters hear rumors of a “Safe Haven” not far off, they come up with a plan to escape the farm. I truly enjoyed this book! The author created a story that the reader can instantly dive into and characters that come to life through every page. This read had everything I could ask for in a book with touches of paranormal, dystopian elements, and beautiful writing to make for an enjoyable read.

Lucid by Adrienne Stoltz and Ron Bass

Sloan and Maggie have never met, but when they go to sleep their worlds collide and they dream that they are the other. Maggie knows Sloan’s every fear and secret as Sloan knows Maggie’s. This story was very interesting…. We start off with two very different girls and point of views but as you read on the two stories become intertwined and the readers are left trying to figure out if these two characters are real or a figment of someone’s imagination. Lucid is the Black Swan of young adult books! I loved how bizarre and emotional this book was. It leaves the reader’s mind in a state of wonder after reading. A Must Read on everyone’s list!

Blood Warrior by H.D. Gordon

Blood Warrior is H.D. Gordon’s debut novel and part of her new series, The Alexa Montgomery Series, that is sure to make her a star one day. This story has amazing, strong characters, a great storyline, and an array of supernatural creatures to keep you interested and reading late into the night!

The story follows Alexa and her sister Nelly, two seemingly regular girls until one day the Lamia comes for them. Forced to leave her mother for dead, Alexa finds out she is the last of her kind, a Sun Warrior who is destined to protect a world of supernatural creatures she had no idea exists.
