9. Where’d You Go, Burnadette? by Maria Semple

8. NW by Zadie Smith

7. Building Stories by Chris Ware

6. The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

***5. The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There by Catherynne Valente***

4. At Last by Edward St. Aubyn

3. Bill Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain

2. Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel

***1. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green***

The fault in Our Stars was a huge book across the boards this year and we couldn’t be happier for our friend John Green. For those of you who haven’t read it here is the synopsis:

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

A must read for any YA lover!

The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There has been a popular book with the Teen Press Corps all year. It is the follow up to the wildly popular  The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Shipof Her Own Making. It’s no surprise this book landed on the top ten list. Filled with action, adventure, and intrigue, it’s a fast paced and beautifully rich fantasy.

September has longed to return to Fairyland after her first adventure there. And when she finally does, she learns that its inhabitants have been losing their shadows—and their magic—to the world of Fairyland Below. This underworld has a new ruler: Halloween, the Hollow Queen, who is September’s shadow. And Halloween does not want to give Fairyland’s shadows back.
