Statesman Selects: NW

We’re very excited to announce we’ve launched a brand new monthly book feature with the Austin American-Statesman, Statesman Selects. Each month, we’ll highlight the Statesman‘s top recommended read for Austin. What this amounts to is a whole lot of book love right here in the heart of Texas, and we’re very proud to be part of it.

The inaugural selection in this new program is NW by Zadie Smith. Smith is one of our favorite literary fiction authors, and her experimental new novel is one of our top picks of 2012.

The Statesman‘s Charles Ealy said in his review:

“Zadie Smith, one of the top fiction writers of our time, rarely fails to make us laugh – and never fails to surprise.

Ever since she burst onto the literary scene in 2000 with the London-based feast of dry wit called “White Teeth,” Smith has taken us deep into the lives of some of the most unusual characters we’ll ever meet. With her latest novel, “NW,” Smith returns to the fertile territory of northwest London to explore the inner lives of four troubled characters, using inventive narrative techniques that range from streams of consciousness to text-message exchanges.”

Read the full review in the Statesman online, and keep your eyes out for the next pick which we’ll announce in January. You can pick up a copy of NW on our shelves or via our website, wwwbookpeople.com. Happy reading, book lovers!
