Big news in the book world today – World Book Night US has announced its list of 2013 Book Picks and is now accepting applications for givers for World Book Night 2013!
Last year we served as a distribution point for World Book Night books and we’re very excited to do so again. We believe in and wholeheartedly support World Book Night’s mission of encouraging literacy and spreading a love of books by energizing volunteers to give out as many books as possible in one night.
To apply to be a giver, visit the World Book Night US website, where you’ll also find the full list of titles and more information about World Book Night US. If you joined us last year, we hope you’ll do so again. And if you’re new to World Book Night, welcome aboard!
Here’s a quick little FAQ about World Book Night:
Q. What is World Book Night?
A. World Book Night is an annual celebration dedicated to spreading the love of reading, person to person. Each year on April 23, tens of thousands of people in the U.S. go out into their communities and give a total of half a million free World Book Night paperbacks to light and non-readers.
Q. What exactly do givers hand out?
A. World Book Night U.S. books are specially produced, not-for-resale paperbacks. Book givers will receive 20 copies of one book, a book they love from the list of 30 World Book Night U.S. selections. In their applications, givers make three choices, and WBN does its absolute best to get everyone their first or second choice.
Q. Do givers have to buy the books?
A. There is no charge for these special, not-for-resale editions. Givers will be responsible for any expenses incurred in picking up their box and distributing the books. These books cannot be resold in any fashion.
Authors have foregone their royalties to make this possible. Please see the full list of Partners and Sponsors in the About Us section on the WBN US website. Through their generosity and the work of many volunteers—including you—World Book Night is able to make the books available free of charge.
The answers to many more questions can be found on the World Book Night website. Take a look and join us in participating in World Book Night!
