STEPHANYA
Life After Death by Damien Echols
“Damien Echols was one of the West Memphis Three, a group of three teenage boys falsely accused of killing three eight year old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas. They were accused of being devil worshipers and assumed guilty in large part because of the way they dressed. Damien was recently released from prison after serving 18 years, most of which he spent in solitary confinement. During that time Damien kept journals to maintain his sanity. These journals tell the story of his life before his wrongful imprisonment, during his incarceration, and after his release, as well as going deeply into the spiritual practices he used to not only stay sane but become a better person. This is an amazing book.”
FLIPPO
The Dangerous Animals Club by Stephen Tobolowsky
“I’m about half way through it now, and it’s really great. Each story has a moral but they’re not too heavy handed, and everything comes together really well in the end. His storytelling is heartfelt and sincerely funny. I couldn’t read the story about his mom dying while on the bus on the way to work because I knew I would cry- especially thinking about him telling that story when he visited BookPeople last month, everyone was in tears.”
Join Flippo and Steven Monday, November 26 at 7PM for the Stand Up Sit Down Book Club when they will be discussing The Dangerous Animals Club.
MADELINE
A Matter of Magic by Patricia Wrede
“When Kim gets caught breaking into a real wizard’s wagon, he offers her the chance to help him solve a mystery. It’s an alternative history set in the regency period in England, with magic- so really fun! I’ve read it a few times, it’s my go to book when I don’t have something steady I’m reading. It’s really well written, I highly recommend it.”
JOHN
Tao Te Ching translated by Gia Fu Feng
“This is the perfect thing for those Saturday mornings when you wake up and don’t have any plans and you want to feel cosmic in some sense. It has beautiful black and white nature photographs and the translation is really accessible. This beautiful presentation has been continually in print since the 1970s, which says a lot in the book world. There is also a printing that is text only, it’s available for a reduced price.”

The Best of Wodehouse by P.G. Wodehouse
“This is a great sampling of one funniest and best writers ever. You’ll love the rest of his work but this is a great place to start. Meet Jeeves, Wooster and the maniacs of Blandings Castle, you’ll be happy you did.”
