The Miniature Wife and Other Stories by Manuel Gonzales
“The Miniature Wife and Other Stories reminds me a lot of Matthew Derby’s Super Flat Times. The bizarre nature of all of it, and the infusion of these sort of science fiction scenarios into otherwise realistic plots – it’s fantastic. The book opens with a story about a plane that has been circling Dallas for 20 years, running on “perpetual fuel.” It’s passengers are growing older, some dying, a baby has been born in flight- he’s now a man, they survive off of a clear nutrient liquid, and are offered no explanation of their hijacking or this mysterious drink. The whole thing is so silly but brilliant.”
The Miniature Wife and Other stories will be released January 2013, but is now available for pre order.

Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman
“Christopher Buehlman will be at BookPeople in November and I’m stoked. Between Two Fires is also the Nightmare Factory Book Club book of the month for Novemeber, I highly recommend you come to both.
Between Two Fires is the follow up to the World Fantasy Award nominated Across the River. It’s awesome. It’s really dark, like Cormac McCarthy’s The Road crossed with John Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress. It’s set during the plague and deals with devils (lots of devils), angels, and consumption. A fun read, I highly recommend it!”
Between Two Fires will be released Oct 2, 2012, but is now available for pre-order.

It Happened In Boston? by Russell Greenan
“It happened in Boston? is the story of a genius artist (who remains unnamed throughout the book) on a mission to find and destroy God. Greenan is an amazing writer, a real wiz with words. His characters are breathtaking. Things are mysterious just yet and I’m waiting for the twist. So far it’s been excellent.”

The Twelve by Justin Cronin ANDDDD…
The Dog Stars by Peter Heller
“I’m actually reading two post-apocalyptic books right now. Although it’s not terribly surprising, I find it really
interesting that modern stories of the end of the world are so unrelentingly bleak. So far I think The Twelve is better than The Passage. It has Cronnin’s insane twists and surprises and of course all of the heartbreak- he really makes you fall in love with his characters. The Twelve didn’t waste anytime since it’s plot was already established in the first book, tragedy unfolds quickly and you can’t wait to see what happens next – a real page turner. I’m not too far into the The Dog Stars, but the book follows two, for lack of better words, rednecks. One is a compassionate character who you could easily relate to and his companion by necessity is a border line sociopath. It’s really well written.”

How Should A Person Be? by Sheila Heiti
“How Should A Person Be? is literally unlike any book I’ve ever read. I love it, and Sheila. The book is a fictionalized semi autobiography about a woman, recently divorced, who is trying to rediscover who she is or rather who she should be. Through her new relationships she records interactions and exchanges in hopes of getting a handle on life and her own writing. This book is amazing.”
