Happy Friday to all! Here is some book news to start the weekend off right.
Comic-Con wrapped up in San Diego this week. PW reports Robert Kirkman‘s The Walking Dead came out on top. “The popular comic released its 100th issue during the Con. Sporting 13 variant covers and a shocking, gruesome death within its pages, it notched up more than 383,000 copies ordered by comics retailers, making it the best selling comic since 1997.” To read the full article click here.
Best-selling author Neil Gaiman has signed a multi-book deal this week with HarperCollins. “The first book, Chu’s Day, will be illustrated by Adam Rex; it is set for January 8, 2013.” To read the full article click here.
It was announced that the House of Earth, the previously unpublished novel of Mr. Woody Guthrie, will be released next Spring. “The manuscript, which Guthrie finished in 1947, follows a West Texas couple who, in their effort to build adobe homes as protection against treacherous weather, fight against banks and lumber companies.” Douglas Brinkley (who we LOVE) heard of the unpublished work while doing a piece on Bob Dylan. The book was never mentioned in Guthrie’s biographies. “With help from the Woody Guthrie Foundation and the singer’s daughter, Nora, he found the manuscript last fall. The published book will be about 250 pages, Mr. Brinkley said.” The New York Times Arts Beat reported Douglas Brinkley has teamed up with Johnny Depp on this project.
