Three Times Lucky by SHEILA TURNAGE
Recommended for ages 8 & up

Mo LoBeau has been searching for her Upstream Mother ever since the day she was found as a baby, drifting down the river in a hurricane. Strangely enough the Colonel, who took her in, can’t remember anything about his past before that night either. And these are not the only mysteries swirling around Tupelo Landing this summer. In fact, there are a surprising number, including an honest-to-goodness murder that needs solving too. Luckily Mo and her best friend Dale just know they’re the right detectives to solve them all. This is one of our store’s hands-down favorite books of the year so far, and if you only read one middle grade novel this summer, we think this should be it.

The Prince Who Fell From the Sky by JOHN CLAUDE BEMIS
Recommended for ages 8 & up

In the Forest where humans once dominated, razing lands and terrorizing the noble hunting animals, they now only exist in memory, long since exterminated. But when a starship crashes into the Forest with a human boy inside, the bear Casseomae finds herself drawn to the skinless cub and flees the Forest and the pursuing wolf pack to raise him in safety. Thoughtfully crafted, filled with complex and richly drawn animal characters, and infused with ecological overtones, this post-apocalyptic animal adventure emerges as a unique and absorbing fantasy that truly stands out from the crowd.

Two Crafty Criminals by PHILIP PULLMAN
Recommended for ages 8 & up

Fans of slapstick comedy will relish this bind-up of two novellas published in England by Philip Pullman in the 1990’s. Set in the colorful streets of 1894 London, these stories follow a gang of budding detectives led by Benny (the brains) and Sam a.k.a. Thunderbolt (the brawn). In both memorable capers,Thunderbolt’s Waxwork and The Gas-Fitters’ Ball, we get to see the New Cut Gang in action as they solve mysteries and laugh in the face of danger. Laugh-out-loud funny, delightfully absurd, and downright entertaining, this is a fantastic book to take on summer vacation.

WHERE’S WALDO TURNS 25 AND CELEBRATES BY HIDING ALL OVER AUSTIN!

Waldo, our favorite red-white-and-blue wanderer, is heading out around the country this July to flaunt his independence and tour some of the special places that make America’s communities so unique — and even weird! And of course that means he’s going to be hitting Austin and daring you to find him as he visits some of our most notable local independent businesses.

We will be handing out flyers instore during the month of June to get you ready to participate in our fun and festive Find Waldo Local scavenger hunt, so make sure you stop by and pick one up so that you know what to do when the search goes live on July 1.

Then bring your form back to BookPeople on August 4th for our Wonderful Waldo Wrap Up Party for prizes, games, and fun with our friend Waldo in person!
